Polynucleotides
Polynucleotides
Polynucleotide treatment involves the injection of Rejuran HB polynucleotides composed of salmon DNA fragments. These skin boosters stimulate collagen production, improve microcirculation and decrease inflammation to rejuvenate the structure of the skin resulting in a youthful complexion. Polynucleotide treatment is especially beneficial for improving the appearance of periorbital dark circles.
Treatment FAQs
Polynucleotides are fragments of DNA, specifically PDRN (polydeoxyribonucleotide). The Rejuran HB polynucleotides that Dr Sebagh and his team use in The Clinic are composed of salmon PDRN. Salmon is the safest source of polynucleotides as it is the most similar to human PDRN and therefore the least reactive when injected into the skin.
When polynucleotides are injected, they act on specific receptors resulting in three distinct effects which contribute to an improvement in the condition of the skin.
Firstly, they stimulate the release of certain growth factors, in particular fibroblasts which in turn increase the synthesis of collagen and elastin. Polynucleotides also stimulate the release of osteoblasts, the growth factors responsible for bone formation, and chondrocytes, which maintain the structure of the extracellular matrix, crucial for optimising cell function.
Secondly, polynucleotides increase microcirculation due to the stimulation of vascular epithelial growth factors. This results in increased blood flow and nutrients in the treatment area.
Finally, polynucleotides have a powerful anti-inflammatory effect helping to reduce the cellular inflammation caused by the ageing process, known as 'inflammageing'.
Polynucleotides are skin boosters that function in multiple ways to improve the overall appearance of the skin resulting in a radiant youthful complexion.
- They can be injected all over the face to improve fine lines, tighten the skin and provide a youthful glow.
- They can be injected into specific areas, including the neck, to improve the appearance of crepiness, fine lines and wrinkles.
- Dr Sebagh has seen remarkable results with injecting polynucleotides under the eyes to improve the appearance of fine lines, crow's feet and even dark circles.
Because treatment with polynucleotides stimulates the body's own regenerative processes, typically results do not show immediately and 3-4 sessions are required, spaced 3-4 weeks apart. Most people start to notice the improvements after their second session.
Treatment with polynucleotides is virtually painless. Dr Sebagh has a specific technique for injecting polynucleotides using a micro cannula, injecting under the skin to avoid swelling, or 'bumps', around the injection site. Local anaesthetic is administered to the area of insertion to minimise discomfort.
Downtime is minimal and practically non-existent. Dr Sebagh's specific micro cannula technique eradicates the risk of any 'bumps' or swelling at the sites of polynucleotide injection (which typically take at least 48 hours to disappear.) Patients will be able to resume normal activities immediately after treatment. Strenuous exercise should be avoided for at least 24 hours.
Results can last anywhere between 12 to 18 months. However, Dr Sebagh recommends a top-up of polynucleotides every 6-12 months to maintain and prolong the skin rejuvenation.
