Treatment FAQs
Dermal lip filler treatment entails injecting a Hyaluronic Acid-containing solution into your lips or surrounding borders, helping to define the natural lip shape and restore volume and fullness. The quantity of filler used depends on the desired look. At The Chandos House Clinic, we prioritise natural-looking filler results using high-quality temporary fillers like Teoxane and Juvederm. We never use permanent fillers.
Different treatment options for dermal lip filler include:
Augmenting volume in the upper and lower lip.
Defining the vermillion border (lip lines).
Lifting oral commissures (lip corners).
Filling and softening vertical lines & smokers lines.
Rebalancing or enhancing philtral columns (cupid's bow)
During the consultation, our medical practitioner will discuss your desired lip shape and the achievable outcomes. If you opt for numbing cream before your lip filler treatment, it will be applied before the procedure. Our highly-trained medical professionals will then inject the hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers, which come in a smooth gel form, into the treatment area.
Most dermal fillers include an added anesthetic, making the treatment relatively pain-free. In most cases, we apply a topical anesthetic to the area before treatment for increased comfort. Discomfort levels depend on individual pain tolerance, practitioner technique, and treated areas.
At The Chandos House Clinic, your comfort is our priority. We do everything possible to make your lip filler treatment as pain-free as possible. If you are concerned, we recommend scheduling a consultation to discuss lip filler in more detail.
Generally, treatment with dermal filler is a very safe procedure with minimal side effects. There may be some swelling and minor bruising after treatment but these should resolve on their own accord.
There is little to no downtime after Lip Filler with most patients able to resume their daily activities immediately after treatment. We recommend avoiding strenuous exercise for 4-6 hours, avoiding touching your face for 6 hours (including makeup application), minimizing sun exposure, and using SPF protection.
Bruising and swelling after lip filler can be unpredictable, but several measures can reduce your risk of bruising:
Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, for one week before and two days after treatment.
Refrain from taking St. John's Wort, fish oil/omega-3, flaxseed oil, or vitamin E for one week before treatment.
Abstain from alcohol for 24 hours after treatment.
Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours after treatment.
Stay away from extreme heat, such as steam rooms, saunas, and freezing temperatures.
Take arnica tablets in the weeks leading up to treatment.
Results are immediately visible and the final result will be visible after any swelling has reduced.
Dermal lip filler results can last between 6 and 18 months, depending on the filler used. The effects gradually fade over time, and your medical professional can advise when to return for additional treatment to maintain results. If you choose not to continue lip filler injections, the gel will be naturally absorbed by your body.
Most patients will only require one session. However, depending on the desired outcome, in order to ensure the most natural look, it may be necessary to take a gradual approach to augmentation or volume restoration requiring more than one treatment session.
