Nd:YAG Laser
Nd:YAG Laser
Nd:YAG Laser is a device which offers laser wavelengths to improve the appearance of capillaries on the skin. Nd:YAG energy is delivered using long pulses which are converted into heat in the tissue. The heat coagulates the blood inside the vessel, causing it to collapse and seal. The blood is rerouted to deeper blood vessels, and the damaged vessel slowly disappears as the body sheds the cells naturally.
Treatment FAQs
Excel V Cutera, the only long pulsed Nd:YAG Laser is a device developed using TruPulse technology. Nd:YAG laser, which offers 532/1064mm laser wavelengths, is used to dissipate the expansion of capillaries and their prominence on the skin, vascularisation and benign lesions.
Nd:YAG laser treatment is effective at removing unsightly vascular irregularities and lesions such as spider veins and the capillary equivalent known as telangiectasia. Capillary treatments are not only for aesthetic concerns, but also for the sensitivity that it creates on the skin.
The best time for capillary treatments is between October and April, the winter months. Although capillary treatments are perfectly safe, it is vitally important to protect the skin from sunlight, as not only do extreme temperatures can increase the appearance of capillaries as the skin, but also the skin becomes extremely sensitive for a while after the procedure and therefore vulnerable to UV rays.
The laser treatment is precise so will not affect the surrounding tissue. Each pulse of the Nd:YAG laser is accompanied by a pause which cools the epidermis to minimise pain and any damage to the treatment area. This allows the procedure to be very comfortable and virtually painless.
Although capillary treatment with Nd:YAG Vascular laser does not interrupt social life, it is normal to experience mild oedema in the first two days after the procedure. Since the skin will be sensitive for a while after treatment, it is absolutely necessary to use high factor sunscreen before going out in the sun.
Nd:YAG laser treatment can be applied to everyone except those with pacemakers, epilepsy patients, pregnant women and people with bleeding disorders.
It is suitable for all skin types. The ideal candidate is one with exposed capillaries which causes redness and vascularity.
The Nd:YAG laser can potentially cause the following side effects:
Redness, mild swelling and puffiness. All should resolve themselves within 24-48 hours of the procedure.
